Prairial Presentation

The  Prairial plateform was created in April 2017 by université Jean Moulin Lyon 3 to ensure the digital distribution of humanities and social sciences journals. It became an official OpenEdition incubator in 2018, and is now supported by the Pôle éditorial de soutien aux revues du site Lyon- Saint-Étienne, which brings together the universities of Lyon 2, Lyon 3 and the MSH Lyon-St-Étienne. It offers strong editorial, legal, technical and methodological support to the editorial teams of the journals it distributes. Prairial currently hosts 15 journals and several projects are underway for the year 2021.

Persée presentation

Persée is a support and research unit attached to the ENS de Lyon and the CNRS. Since 2003, it has benefited from the support of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation for the implementation of a program of digitization, enrichment and diffusion of scientific heritage collections.

The Persée portal now hosts 338 collections, representing more than 850,000 documents, mainly in the Humanities and Social Sciences, but also in Life and Earth Sciences and in Science and Technology. Thanks to the quality of the corpus, a fine indexing of the contents and an optimized referencing, the portal received in 2019 more than 100 million visits and nearly 5 million articles were downloaded.

Actions taken

At the end of 2020, Prairial and Persée signed a partnership for the enriched retrospective digitization of the printed issues of the nursery’s journals corresponding to the editorial and scientific policy of the persee.fr portal, in order to provide researchers, students and the general public with easier access to all the articles in these journals.

For Prairial, it was a matter of accompanying the digital transition of the journals of the nursery, from the first issue to the current issue, by backing up the journals chosen for retrospective digitization with a large, coherent and structured scientific corpus. For Perseus, the aim was to participate in the evolution of academic journals towards open science while promoting the transfer of its expertise to the teams of the incubator.

This partnership is an opportunity to set up a process of collaborative work and exchange of skills around two journals, les Cahiers du Gadges and Modernités Russes. The collections have been digitized by Persee. Then came the time for Persee to train the Prairial teams in the fine structuring of the articles. This structuring stage should last until spring. Then will come the quality control, the validation of the author authorities and finally the publication on the persee.fr portal and the referencing with search engines. Other reviews are already planned for the future, for the greater benefit of the study and research.
