Bulliot

« Bulliot, Bibracte et moi » is a participatory device involving the public of the Bibracte site and museum in the exploitation of archaeological archives, by transcribing and documenting the handwritten excavation notebooks of Jacques-Gabriel Bulliot. In 2019, the UAR Persée has been asked to be a partner in the response to the call for Innovative Digital Services proposed by the Ministry of Culture. The project “Bulliot, Bibracte etmoi” was the winner of this call.

Initially, the community of Bibracte enthusiasts was mobilized to transcribe the notebooks (digitized in image format) of J.-G. Bulliot (1817-1902), the first excavator of this exceptional site, the capital of the Aedui in the 1st century BC. The corpus of 11 notebooks represents 700 pages mixing text and field sketches. The future perseid is part of the continuity of the notebook transcription project by making available, within the framework of a dedicated site, a readable text (manuscript + transcription), searchable (full text search), structured and indexed. The corpus will also be composed of a set of documents published by Bulliot (articles and monographs) offering perspectives for study and research on the construction of past archaeological practices and methods.
